How to Measure Your Carton

Multiply the Dimensions

L × W × H = Volume per carton. This gives you the volume of a single carton.

Multiply by Quantity

Volume per carton × Number of Cartons = Total CBM. Repeat for different sizes if your packaging varies.

CBM & Volumetric Weight FAQ

CBM stands for Cubic Meter — a measure of the volume your cargo takes up. It's calculated as Length × Width × Height (in meters), and is the standard unit used to price sea freight shipments.

Volumetric weight estimates weight based on the space a package occupies rather than its actual weight. Airlines use it because light, bulky cargo takes up valuable space — it's calculated as (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 6000.

Whichever is greater. For sea freight, carriers compare your CBM to your weight in tons (W/M). For air freight, they compare your actual weight to your volumetric weight. The higher number becomes your chargeable weight.
